How chocolate can affect your skin 

Let’s be honest, I absolutely love chocolate and I’m sure a lot of us do. Especially around Easter time, when we might eat a little too much!

We don’t really think about how this will affect our skin, so here’s a few tips to consider when eating chocolate or any sugary foods. 

Let’s face facts about sugar:

If our diet consists of high amounts of sugar, this can promote pre-mature skin ageing and kick start the process of glycation. 

Glycation is one of many natural ageing processes that occur in skin and is the reaction of sugars with proteins and the cross linking of our collagen and elastin. Simple terms - glycation occurs when the sugars (glucose) in our blood stream attach to our proteins (collagen) causing pre-mature ageing. This means over time excessive amounts of sugar intake can make the skin look dull, tired and can became more wrinkled.
